As a qualified and registered Myotherapist with 14yrs experience I am dedicated to achieving long term results for all types of painful conditions. To do this I have developed a deep understanding of cause and effect. Pain is the body’s way of telling us there is something wrong, this is the effect part of the equation. Then with thorough investigation the cause will be unravelled and an appropriately targeted treatment plan can be implemented to gain the best long term results for you.
For example you may have pain on the outside of your knee, which may be a problem often referred to as runners’ knee, or more technically known as Iliotibial (ITB) friction syndrome a condition where the Iliotibial band (the large tendon on the lateral leg) is rubbing on bone as it crosses the knee causing pain on the outside of the knee. This is what I shall list as the secondary cause. We can have some impact on the effect of this by releasing the ITB and its associated muscles. To find the underlying cause however I will look at possible muscular imbalances between medial and lateral thigh muscles and the causes of said muscular imbalances. For this an investigation of posture, biomechanics and a gate analysis may be necessary. Only then by correcting any problems found in these areas will long term results be achieved.
Having this understanding of cause and effect is an important part of not only getting results in the form of relief from pain but it will also stop reoccurrence in the future. This applies to all types of pain, from headaches, back, neck and shoulder pain, as well as nerve type pain.
Developing a true understanding of where the pain is coming from (the cause) is the only real way to gain a long term result in releaving the pain (the effect)
