Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger points are the number one cause of myofascial pain syndrome and related headaches, and can be painful and debilitating.
Trigger Point Therapy is the use of digital ischemic pressure to release these myofascial trigger points (TPs) and relieve the associated discomfort. Once the trigger points are located, the therapist applies gentle pressure using the thumb or fingers until a release is felt. This usually takes around 30 to 45 seconds and may be repeated up to 3 times for each TP. This process is generally done in the course of a therapeutic massage, but other techniques used for trigger point release are:
- Dry Needling
- Cupping
- Ice and stretch therapy
