What is Dry Needling?

Dry needling is the use of a filiform needle (acupuncture needle) to stimulate and release myofascial trigger points and relieve muscular tension associated with myofascial pain syndrome.  It should not be confused with acupuncture.  Dry needling is based on Western medicine philosophy and the neurophysiological principles, whereas acupuncture is based around the Eastern philosophy of meridians and energy flow.

In simple terms, the treatment involves the needling of a muscle’s trigger points to release soft tissue tension and stimulate the body’s natural healing process.
